We built and donated this for the Science teacher at Webb Elementary School in McKinney Texas. The school was hosting several teams in the KidWind Challenge. Link Here
They needed a device to measure both volts and amps at the same time to test the output of their wind powered generator projects. This tool is to help them chart their changes in blade configurations and such.
We hacked an old analog multi meter and cobbled some parts from an old fire alarm and viola, a custom dual diagnostic instrument !
It's not pretty but it works.
It has manually adjustable scaling. Note the 0-50 mA and 0-500 mA settings.
The 2 devices conflicted with each other magnetically so we added an external magnet at just the right spot to aid in the calibration.
WHAT HAVE WE LEARNED ?
What have we learned?
We can do unusual projects.
We can install help schools for free.
We like to hack old discarded parts into useful items.
